Here is some great advice for problem solving and volume.

Problem 1 (Easy)

1. How much cement is needed to build a sidewalk that is one thousand, one hundred twenty metres long, four metres wide and fifty centimetres thick? Round your answer to the nearest cubic metre.

Problem 2 (harder)

2. Mr. Bloop has a cylindrical water tank on his farm. It is three metres long and 60 centimetres in diameter. Water flows out a valve in the bottom of the tank at a rate of 0.8 cubic metres per second. How long will it take the tank to empty?

Problem 3 (easy)

3. If you have five 5 cm by 5 cm x 5 cm aluminum cubes and superglue them together in a row, what is the surface area of the resulting shape made by the five cubes?

5(5)=25

there r 6 sides so you can times this by 6.

25(6)=150

this is how big 1 cube is.

u have 5 cubes so multiply by 5.

150(5)=750

8 sides r covered so u have to subtract those sides.

750-200=550

i already did 1 of the other questions so i only have to do 1 right? i did the question about the size of the house

since 4 sides are covered, you would have to subtract 200 because 1 side would equal 50 and 50 times 4 is 200

There are 6 sides so you times 25 by 6.

There are 5 cubes in this question. So you have to times 150 by 5.

150(5)=750

there are 8 sides covered. Therefore you have to subtract those sides.

750-200=550

I'm not sure if I'm suppose to put this here and if it's too late but here are my answers for that test thing that said sumthin bout going to taking ur math 2 the next level thing:

The cement needed is 523.30 (I think)

1120x50=550

1120x4=4480 {=5230

4x50=200

3. The surface area is 300 cm3

15x5=75 10x5=50

15x5=75{=175 10x5=50{=125

5x5=25 5x5=25

175+125=300

4480 x 50 = 224000 meters cubed

5 x 5 x 6 sides = 150 cm

That's one cube, so you multiply that by 5

150 x 5 = 750

But your only counting the sides seen, so you minus the sides not seen. The sides are all 25, so you minus 25 for each side.

8 sides = 200

750 - 200 = 550 cm squ.

Problem 3 (easy)

If you have five 5 cm by 5 cm x 5 cm aluminum cubes and superglue them together in a row, what is the surface area of the resulting shape made by the five cubes?

To find a side of a cube you would have to multiply 5 x 5 which equals 25 and since a cube has 6 sides you would then multiply 6 x 25 which equals 150. We now have one cube's surface area. since theres five cubes, multiply 5 x 150 which equals 750. Since it's superglued together you would have to subtract the sides that were superglued. 8 sides are superglued together...doing the math like so, one side = 25 so 25 x 8 = 200, so subtract 200 from 750... and then that would result of a total of 550 cm². YAY (: there! the surface area of the 5, 5 by 5 cubes superglued together is 550 cm².

3. If you have five 5 cm by 5 cm x 5 cm aluminum cubes and superglue them together in a row, what is the surface area of the resulting shape made by the five cubes?

5 x 5 = 25 (6 sides) 25x 6 =150

(5cubes) 5 x 150= 750

(8 sides covered) 8 x 25 = 200

750 - 200 = 550
